About this Project

Project Launch: 8-13-25

Construction of the Kachenga Community-Based Childcare Centre (CBCC), led by the Kafanikhale Village Development Committee, started in 2024 but was not completed due to high increase in prices of materials. With an additional investment of $4,372.36 from Mudzi Connect, the facility will be fully painted, floored, and furnished making it ready for use. Once completed, the CBCC will offer a safe and supportive learning environment for over 100 children in the early childhood development stage. It will equip them with foundational skills in literacy and numeracy, effectively preparing them for primary education.

Project Update: 12-19-25

The completion of Kachenga Community Childcare Centre (CBCC), along with the construction of a kitchen and toilet, is advancing steadily under the leadership of Kafanikhale Village Development Committee with support from Mudzi Connect. Key works in this final phase have included painting, installing a fisher board, building a toilet, and constructing a water drainage system. Remaining tasks, such as plastering and flooring the kitchen, are planned for completion shortly. Once finished, the CBCC will provide a safe and stimulating environment for children under five, supporting early childhood learning and development. Strong community participation has kept the project on schedule, reflecting a shared commitment to improving the welfare of the youngest learners in the area.

Final Report: 2-4-26

Thanks to a co-investment of $4,572.36 with Mudzi Connect, the Kafanikhale Village Development Committee successfully completed the construction of the Kachenga CBCC, including a dedicated kitchen and toilet facilities. This fully functional and safe early learning center now provides a secure, child-friendly environment that significantly enhances the quality of early childhood education. Previously, 118 children under five—comprising 68 girls and 50 boys—attended lessons in a dilapidated grass shelter, vulnerable to harsh weather conditions and frequent disruptions. The new CBCC ensures improved hygiene standards and proper meal preparation, fostering better health and well-being. Additionally, six female caregivers have received training to implement enhanced early learning practices. As a result, the center supports children’s cognitive, social, and physical development, while enabling parents to engage in productive activities with confidence that their children are in a safe and nurturing environment.
