About this Project

Project Launch: 8-13-25

In 2024, Nakondwa Primary School, located in the area of Group Village Headman Chimombo under Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa, began constructing a three-bedroom teacher’s house to address a critical shortage of teachers’ housing. The school currently has six teachers for grades 1 through 8, but only four houses—two of acceptable standards and two substandard—are available. This shortage forces some teachers to commute long distances, resulting in inconsistent attendance and unattended classes.

The community has co-invested $1,594.52 with Mudzi Connect to support the construction. Major activities in this final phase include plastering, painting, fixing fisher boards, and flooring. The majority of the funding will be used to purchase materials, with a portion allocated for labor costs. Completion of the house is expected to improve teacher retention, reduce absenteeism, and enhance the quality of education for students at Nakondwa Primary School.

Project Update: 12-19-25

Situated in Msakambewa, Dowa district, Chimombo Village Development Committee, in collaboration with the Nakondwa School Management Committee and the local community, successfully completed the construction of a teachers’ house at Nakondwa Primary School. This project, initially started in 2024 but faced delays due to rising costs of construction materials. Major activities carried out in the final phase included plastering, painting, flooring, and fixing fisher boards. The completed house is already occupied by a teacher, providing a safe and comfortable living space. This achievement is expected to improve teacher retention, reduce absenteeism, and enhance the overall learning environment for students at Nakondwa Primary School.

Final Report: 3-6-26

Supported by  Mudzi Connect with $1,594.52, Chimombo Village Development Committee completed the second phase of Nakondwa Teachers’ House at Nakondwa Primary School in 2024. The project addressed teacher shortages by providing on-campus accommodation, improving retention and reducing long commutes. The new house increased staff housing from six to seven, enabling the school to expand from nine to ten teachers, including three women. This resulted in full class staffing, eliminating absenteeism. The house benefits 56 people, a teacher, families, and 52 Standard 5 students—ensuring consistent access to teachers. The fully operational house has improved teacher availability, learner support, and overall education quality.
